These things get Ginormous!

The Gibson 1462 has out grown its patch several times already. I am trimming on a regular basis to keep it constrained to its alloted space. Because of that, and because I also want my regular garden space back, I have started another patch. The new patch is getting corn and squash in it this year, every year thereafter it will be the space for the Atlantic Giant Pumpkin. The corn and squash have been up for two days now. The space measures aprx 460 sqft.

First I put 2 gallons of roundup on the grass;

A week later everything is dead;

Til it all in;

Add soil amendments;

And add fence and irrigation;

Both of these pumpkins (1462 Gibsons) are one week old. I am going to let them both grow until next weekend and then the largest one makes the cut and the other gets cut.

I have two pumpkins on the vines as of yesterday. The male flowers are also opening. See more pictures of the pumpkins and my entire growing progress by clicking on the forum link to the right and then going to the AG Growers area of the forum.

Started a new patch

I started a new patch yesterday for the giant pumpkins. It measures 460 square feet. I put two gallons of roundup on the grass. When it is good and dead I am going to plant sweet corn there this year and then from next year on it will be home to the giant pumpkin. I am making a new patch because these Atlantic Giant pumpkins take up an enormous amount of space and I want my regular garden area back! This is the new area.
